Chaminade-Madonna Celebrates
International Women's Week
Written by: Bro. Jack Ventura, S.M. (Director of Mission Integration), Mrs. Billisi ‘93 (Director of Enrollment Management), and Mrs. Lagrange (Science Department Faculty). Edited for length and clarity by Advancement.
International Women's Week is celebrated around the world, highlighting International Women's Day (March 8, 2025). International Women's Day honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality. This year’s theme was "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment", emphasizing the need for equal rights and opportunities for all.
Bro. Jack, Director of Mission Integration, also serves as Ministry Lead of the Marianist Family Encounters Project (MFEP). The purpose of the Marianist Family Encounters Project is to animate the efforts of all Marianist persons, communities, and institutions in the United States in a manner that manifests our commitment to the Global Compact on Education and contributes to the action areas of the Laudato Si' Action Platform. The fourth goal of the Global Compact on Education is to promote the full participation of Girls and Young Women in Education. Our first Characteristic of Marianist Education is to Educate for Formation in Faith. The Women Engaged (WE) club, co-created and moderated by Mrs. Lagrange and Mrs. Billisi ‘93, is designed to prepare young women for the challenges and opportunities they may encounter beyond high school, whether in college or the professional world. Recognizing the importance of personal and professional development during these formative years, WE offers a comprehensive four-year curriculum, led by a female student advisory board, that focuses on authenticity, self-compassion, resilience, self-worth, confidence, vulnerability, and effective communication. Mrs. Billisi ‘93 and Mrs. Lagrange along with WE student leaders sponsored several events on campus to highlight the equality of girls and women in our educational community in honor of International Women’s Week.
Chaminade-Madonna celebrated International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 6, recognizing women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination, and promoting gender equality. The school community was invited to wear purple in solidarity as a reminder of the strength and importance of women's rights across the world.
On Friday, March 7, nine Chaminade-Madonna female student-athletes attended the 2nd Annual Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) “Play Like a GIRL” event at Pompano Beach High School. This inspiring event celebrates the remarkable achievements of female athletes across Broward County. Students had the opportunity to hear from a dynamic lineup of guest speakers including Sariyah Lewis (Defensive End, High School Tackle Football, Fort Lauderdale High School), Cameron Brooks (Fort Lauderdale United Professional Soccer), Michelle Roque-Paskow (Olympian and Vice President of Operations, National Flag Football Association), and Ashleigh Johnson (USA Women’s Water Polo Goalie). They shared their personal journeys, insights and strategies to empower young athletes to "Play Like a GIRL" – embodying Grit, Integrity, Resilience, and Leadership.
During the week of March 10 to March 14, Chaminade-Madonna celebrated Spirited Sisterhood Week, a week's worth of activities that allow for healthy competition among the participating members of Women Engaged. Club members were divided up into small groups to compete in various team building activities with the winning group being announced on Friday, March 14.

Clubs and Organizations
ManUp
On March 12, ManUP sponsored a trip to the Broward Sheriff's Office's brand new Research and Training Center. The students were given a private tour by Lieutenant Christopher Palamara. They were exposed to the training rooms that deputies use to simulate real world scenarios; given an opportunity to visit the exercise areas that allow the department to maintain fitness; and heard from members of the Sheriff's Office command staff about the opportunities that are available at the agency. Students were also given an opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of what it takes to work in law enforcement. The trip ended with a stop in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Memorial Atrium. In the atrium, a wall lists the names of the 17 people who lost their lives in the tragic events of February 14, 2018 and serves as a reminder to those who enter the facility what they are training for.

Drumline
The CMCP Drumline once again brought its familiar beats to the Hollywood community, leading the Saint Patrick’s Parade on a procession through the downtown square on March 9, 2025. The parade started just south of Hollywood Boulevard and wound its way through the familiar storefront areas and back down Harrison Street. Hundreds of local attendees cheered our drummers on as they marched their way around the loop. Congratulations to our very own Drumline for setting the tone and kicking off the fun. Go Lions!

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad competed in the Regional Competition on Saturday, February 22, at Florida Atlantic University. Two teams from our school competed, securing one spot at the State Competition that will take place on Saturday, April 19, at the University of Florida. We are so proud of their hard work and accomplishments this season. Let’s cheer them on and wish them the best as they compete and represent our school. Go CMCP Scions!

International Thespian Society
Congratulations to our thespian program on qualifying for states! The students participating are wearing their black state shirts today (March 14), so be sure to congratulate them and wish them luck as they bring their superior talents to the state level.
