Gayle Preston '73

Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame

Gayle attended Madonna Academy from 1970 to 1973. She was involved with Keyettes, Pep Club, and Athletic Club serving as treasurer and vice president and participated in intramurals. She played on the winning basketball team all four years; played volleyball and softball a couple of years. She attended many social activities as well going to Chaminade High School football and basketball games, homecoming and prom. She graduated with a great education that prepared her for college, lasting friendships and a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Gayle earned a B.S. in Leisure Services & Studies from Florida State University and an M.S. in Parks & Recreation Administration from Florida International University. She was active in both the National Recreation and Park Association and its state-level counterpart, the Florida Recreation and Park Association.


After a public service career spanning nearly 45 years, Gayle retired as Assistant Director (second in command of Broward County Parks & Recreation Division). She received a Professional Lifetime Award from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials (NACPRO). This prestigious award is given annually to an individual in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of parks and recreation. Gayle has two beautiful children Hope and Hunter.
