John J. Hearn '82


Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame

John Joe (“JJ”) Hearn is the City Attorney for the City of Coral Springs and has worked in the City Attorney’s Office since 1993.  In addition, Mr. Hearn represents various police departments throughout South Florida, as well as over 30 charter schools throughout the state.  For over 15 years, he has been rated AV Preeminent – the highest possible peer review rating in legal ability and ethical standards.


After graduating from Chaminade High School, Mr. Hearn attended the University of Notre Dame where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  Mr. Hearn earned his Juris Doctorate Degree at George Washington Law School. He was on the Dean's List at both Notre Dame and George Washington University.  He was also a member of the George Washington Law Review where he published an article.   


Mr. Hearn has served on several boards throughout South Florida.  He is the former Board Chairman of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, current President of the Notre Dame Club of Fort Lauderdale and Board Member of the St. Thomas Moore Society.


At Chaminade High School, Mr. Hearn was an accomplished basketball player and student.  He was a Team Captain and was named All-County by both the Sun Tattler and the Sun Sentinel.  He was also chosen to play in the County All Star Basketball game. Mr. Hearn was also the President of the National Honor Society and the Class of 1982 Salutatorian.


John has been married for 28 years to his wife, Janet, and has two children, Jack and Mary Kate, who are both presently attending Catholic universities.
