Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame


Valerie Miyares is the District Athletic Manager for the Palm Beach County School District.  She supports Palm Beach County’s 24 high school and 33 middle school athletic programs and their administrations. Ms. Miyares sits on the Orange Bowl Showcase Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

 

In high school, Ms. Miyares played four years of women’s volleyball, basketball and softball. She was a member of the track and field team for one year, as well.  She is the first female student-athlete to sign an NCAA scholarship from CMCP.  Ms. Miyares attended West Liberty University where she played four years of women’s volleyball, leading as captain her Junior and Senior years.  She also played two years of softball and one year of women’s basketball.  During her time on the basketball team, she participated in the Division II Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament.  She was also an All-Conference selection for the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and a three-time selection to the Academic All-Conference Team.  Ms. Miyares was also nominated by West Liberty University in 2001 as the school’s nominee for the NCAA Post-Graduate scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation from West Liberty, she returned to CMCP as a faculty member.  Ms. Miyares also served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Women’s Athletic Director. She coached swimming, diving, men’s volleyball, and softball during her tenure. She has also worked in Athletic Administrative lead positions at West Broward High School, Edgewater High School (Orange County) and Wekiva High School (Orange County).

 

During her time as a school-based Athletic Director, Ms. Miyares served in various committee capacities for the Florida High School Athletic Association including Sectional Appeals, Representative Assembly, The International Student Task Force and the Boys and Girls Academic All-State Committee.

Ms. Miyares also holds a Master’s degree in Sports Administration and is currently working toward earning her Doctorate of Business Administration in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami.
